The beginning of the Wilder Blog

I want to start off this blog with a huge thank you to my amazing brother in law.  He has set all this up for me and is beig very patient with all my questions and getting me started.  He is brilliant by the way.  I would like to ask you all to be patient with me as I start this because I really don’t know what I am doing but I have had several people ask me to do this so here I am.

Let me start off giving a little bit of background of why we decided to sell everything and become travelers.  After our motorcycle wreck in 2017, it really changed our lives and it changed our outlook on life.  We really don’t get attached to things other than each other.  A year after our wreck, I sat in front of Curt and asked him if he would do something with me.  He said, sure and I told him I knew in my heart, we needed to put God first and family second in our lives.  He agreed and on that day that is exactly what we did.  Once we did that, we were amazed how our lives began to change.  It was really fun to sit back and watch God work.  Things started happening for the better and falling into place.  The next thing I said to the man was, “What would you think if we sold our home, had an auction and sold everything and bought a 5th wheel and new truck and travel the United States?”  He looked at me like I had 14 heads.  He sat there for a little bit and said, “Are you serious?”  I said, “sure why not?  Mom and Dad did it and loved it.”  I said,” I don’t want to go somewhere for 6 months then somewhere else for 6 months, I want to travel when the mood hits us.  I want to have our home base basically in Colby so we can be with Ella more and help out where we are needed.”  So he was game for it.  I told him I didn’t want to advertise, I wanted to pray about it.  I told him that way if it happens, it will be a God thing and then we will know it is right.  It won’t be something forced. So for 2 years, we prayed the same prayer every morning and every night about the idea.  Well, when it happened, it happened quickly and so here we are.  So now you know how all of this came about.

We had an amazing auction on February 15th done by the Kirk Brothers and let me say, they are amazing.  If you ever need someone to do an auction, I highly recommend them.  We bought a 2019 Dodge Ram and a 42 foot 2020 Keystone Alpine 5th wheel.  On February 17th, we took off and went as far a Pratt Kansas.  I had a procedure done and we stayed one night there.  On the 18th, we loaded up again and headed to Howard, Kansas where we are now.  Curt had to have his last surgery in Wichita on the 21st.  We knew being close to family as he recuperated was the best thing we could do so we have been staying in the Howard RV Park since the 18th.  On Saturday, February 29th, we are pulling out of Howard to head to Texas for almost a month.  We are so excited to see friends and being somewhere that is a little warmer than Kansas.  So stay tuned to more blogging as we continue our travels.

What a neat account of your “journey” towards the journey that you are setting out upon. With the prayerful underpinnings that set you on your way, the important “planning” has been well taken care of.
Reading your introductory blog post revealed an interesting coincidence. Rev. Andrew Thompson, Sr. Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, AR began a new sermon series this morning pertaining to prayer. When I visit with him, I’ll share your story. Among other resources regarding prayer he recommended the book “How to Pray: A Simple Guide for Normal People.” Clearly, you guys have got that down. 🙂
Heading south to the warmer temperatures awaiting you in Texas sounds like a delightful beginning to your travels along with all of the things to enjoy in that state that I called home for more years than any other during my adult life. I’ll be looking forward to you reports from there along with all of the other destinations that draw you in the wees and months ahead.
Hoping that Arkansas with its great variety of things to see and do will be among your stops, it would be my privilege to see you both whenever you might head this way, whether here in Northwest Arkansas or elsewhere in “The Natural State.”

Comforted in knowing that God’s blessings accompany you each and every day and with thanks for your friendship and kindnesses during my years in Kansas,
    Larry Bassett

Oh Larry: Thank you for your kind words. When we get into Arkansas, you better believe we will contact you and we will see you and do something fun. Looking forward to spending some good fun time with you. We think the world of you and you my friend actually started our better journey in our lives, showing us what God is capable of and to put all our trust, faith and love into our Lord. See you when we are that way. Much Love…..The Wilders
