Good Morning to all of you!
I thought I would share what we have been doing in Montana. First of all, let me say this. If you have never been to Montana, you need to put it on your bucket list. It is fabulous and so beautiful. We truly loving it here. First we stayed at Spring Creek Campground and it was gorgeous. The people here are so nice. We had such a nice time here. The Boulder river was within walking distance from our site. The view of the mountains were breathtaking and the sound of the river rushing is unexplainable. The Boulder River is 60 miles long. The last night we were there, we had storms and the wind was horrible. I was so thankful we were surrounded by mountains. Our electricity went out at 10:30 pm and we didn’t get it back till 11:00 am the next day. We didn’t have water either since the campground was on a well. When the lineman got there from the electric company to fix the problem we were amazed. 3 trees had been uprooted and was in the river with the lines in the water. Some of the guys were on the other side of the river. So the lineman would shoot a harpoon across the river to the other guys to tie the lines to the fallen trees and then shoot the harpoon back to get the trees out of the water then they would repeat this to put new lines up. It was really cool. When they shot the harpoons, it sounded like a bomb. But they got it fixed in record time. The lady that was the manager for the campsite was from Joplin. I couldn’t believe it. It really is a small world. The man beside us was a camp host and he had this little fat dog named Petey and every morning he would say, “Now you know you are not suppose to be over there….now I mean it….get your ass over here. hahahahaha…..Petey would just ignore him until he started walking over to him and then he would run back to their camper. We would get so tickled everyday because it was the same thing every morning.
One day, we went into town, to do laundry and we met a gentleman that was also a permanent RVers and he told us about the Thirsty Turtle. So we left after we got the laundry done and we ate at the Thirsty Turtle. It was really a neat place and the food was good too.
We left Spring Creek one day to drive to the Natural Bridge and Water Falls. On our way, we saw some Elk. They are such a magnificent animal. I got these two pictures and off in the distance by the river I counted 8 of them. When we stopped for me to get a picture, they really got nervous and took off.
I was so proud of myself to actually walk the trail and take pictures since I am so scared of heights. This really was a neat place. They had picnic tables set up everywhere and people were having family picnics there.
The natural bridge actually collapsed in 1989 and so the pictures that show the water going under through the hole is actually making a new natural bridge. This was just such a neat place.
I stood there and took shots of the scenery. Breathtaking is all I can say.
After we left to go back to the campground, this place was so cool. We stopped so we could go in and eat lunch and so I could get pictures. We were there on a Thursday and we had to leave the next day so sadly it was not open. It was only open on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. But the name was awesome. Hollys Roadkill Saloon. hahaha
Well on Friday, June 26th we sadly left Spring Creek and drove to Deer Lodge, Montana to Indian Creek RV Park. We knew that it would not be as pretty as the campground we left but when we got here, they were at lunch so we went over to 4B’s restaurant to have lunch. It was attached to a huge truck stop. We went in and ate and the food was really good. When we got back in the truck to pull the camper to the campsite, I went in and got all the info and we went to our site. When Curt got out, he heard a tire going flat. It was one of our 5th wheel tires. It happened when we pulled into 4B’s. Not only was it flat but it was ruined. It had a big slash in it. Curt was immediately mad about it and I said, “Lets look at the positive in this. It happened when we got here and not on the interstate. So we will have to buy a new tire and have it mounted. To me, so thankful it happened when it did. God is always watching out for us. When we were setting up, a guy from across the way named Johnny came over and talked to us. He was so nice and then his wife Diane came over to visit too. They were from Texas. They told us several things to do here. So the other day, we took a day drive and when we went by the fairgrounds we saw a sign that said draft horses and Curt loves draft horses so we turned around and drove in. We saw a man and lady that just pulled in so we pulled in beside them to ask them when the draft horse exhibition was. Well, we ended up talking for about 45 minutes. He was the ag teacher and they had cancelled the exhibition. But we visited a long time and he told us some awesome day trips we could take. As we were talking they kept saying this child of theirs was working at such and such place and then they would say another child was working at the farm, etc. I finally said, “If you don’t mind me asking, how many children do you have?” His wife said, “we have 14 children.” I said, “What? ” She laughed and said, “We have 3 birth children that are grown and we adopted 11 children of different nationalities.” Bill her husband said, “We make them start working at age 14 to give them responsibility and respect for all things.” They owned a farm and he said some of them work on the farm. When we were talking 3 of the children came up to the lady and called her mom. One was oriental and two of them were black. He chuckled and said we are an ethic family.” I felt so blessed to have gotten to meet these wonderful local people.
It is 44 degrees today and raining and it is suppose to be this way all week. So we have decided to just hang out in the camper. We have the fireplace going and we have sweatshirts on. We are only 35 miles from Butte, Montana and it is a big city, so we are going there tomorrow to get some medicine and do some shopping. We found out from Bill, the ag teacher, that on July 3rd they do an amazing fireworks display and then on the 4th there is a parade and BBQ. He said it is a lot of fun and for us to go early on the 3rd. So I think that is what we are going to do.
Stay tuned, I will be blogging more as we enjoy this beautiful state. We will be here for 5 weeks, then we will head to Idaho to see friends.
