Wilder Nomad Adventure

Our Year in Colorado!

Well, I know it has been a long time since I have blogged, but I have finally found time to type our year up.  We can honestly say it has for sure been an adventure. We started off accepting a job in Estes Park and then got called to come to work at Golden Colorado in Dakota Ridge RV Park for the same owner of Estes Park.  Now with that said, God works In mysterious ways.  We went to Golden and so much happened there that really wasn’t good.  But I know, I was placed there to learn the ins and outs of the computer program.  We worked there from October to May. It snowed there and the snow was beautiful. And of course, Curt got to plow it and he loved that.

We left there in May after being lied to about Estes Park but the good that came out of being there is, we made forever friends with Denny and Melanie (they also worked there) and Mark and Debbie (they stayed there for a month). They are from California.

We also became friends with 3 amazing women, Eiweh, Samri and   Selvia.

So when we left Dakota Ridge, we did NOT to go to Estes Park but instead we ended up at Taylor Park in Almont, Colorado and I will say this……we finally found our HAPPY PLACE.  This place is incredible. We knew the minute we arrived, we finally were in the right place. We were surrounded by sheer beauty. I mean completely surrounded by majestic mountains everywhere you look.  In fact, this is our view from our campsite.

I took a picture of the little RV office where I spend my time.  It snowed on May 30th and it was so pretty.  It didn’t last long though.  We had two days with temperatures of 80 degrees and the rest of the time we were there it was below that.  The weather is what we call perfect.  We run sprinklers at night and one night it got really cold as you can see what happened with the picnic table.  lol. But this is some more pictures of what we are fortunate enough to look at every single day.  Can you tell we love it here?

The picture below is clouds in the morning that are lower than the mountains.  So neat to see.

My office I spend my time at! Isn’t it cute.

Our campsite

Beautiful rainbow.

Brilliant colors of the rainbow.

Taylor Park is 27 miles from Gunnison and it takes around 1 hour to get there due to all the beautiful mountains you drive through. The house in the one picture is incredible.  We drive by this house every time we go to town and we were there from May to the end of September and we never saw anyone there.

Curt and I always say, there are two reasons people come here.  To ride the trails or fish in Taylor lake.  This lake is gorgeous. They catch Pike, Salmon, Rainbow and Brown Trout.  This lake is huge and beautiful.

When we first got to the RV park, we noticed all the hummingbirds around.  They literally dive bomb you.  I set out 3 feeders and I have never had this many hummingbirds.  They are different than the ones we have had in the past.  They perch and they chirp.  We would fill our feeders 2 or 3 times a day.  One time, Curt went over to fill the feeders and he left the door open in the camper while filling the feeders and they flew into the camper and would stare at him and then fly out and then back in the camper.  They were like saying hurry up and get them filled, we are hungry.  That was just plain awesome.  I sat outside with a feeder ring on my finger and I had one eat right out of that ring on my finger.  They are the coolest little things.

The owners, Ted and Tammy literally pulled us in as family.  We have never worked for any greater people than this couple.  They are also originally from Kansas.  In fact, I worked with Tammy’s sister in law in Scott City when I was in management training with FSA.  Ted and Tammy are younger than us but if I am being honest, Curt and I are the oldest workers there.  This is a family operation.  Their oldest daughter, Bridgett, runs the gift shop and her husband, Barry, works in the Trading Post and actually is everyones go to person.  This guy can do anything and everything.  Bridgett is Tania’s age and she is so sweet and has an amazing gift shop.  She works so hard getting all kinds of cool things to go in the gift shop.  I felt really close to Bridgett and Barry as well.  Their younger daughter, Nissa, runs the restrauant and her significant other, Evan, works in the trading post.  I became really close with Nissa.  Evan is the sweetest man.  Nissa has a jewel in him.  Nissa is an amazing young woman and works very hard.  This place has 67 RV sites, which we are in charge of, 34 cabins, and of course the amazing gift shop, good restaurant and a trading post.  We became very good friends with other work campers.  Arlan and Anita were camped beside us and they are from Kansas. Anita works in the gift shop and Arlan works in the trading posts. Anita worked a day here and there in the RV Park to give me a break.  Then there is Mel and Rodney.  Rodney works in the trading post and Mel is the head and in charge of the cleaning crew.  There was a young cute couple, Max and Hanna and Max worked in the trading post and Hanna was on the cleaning crew.  They both are super nice kids.

We also met some very nice people camping in the RV park.  Faye & Don were from Utah and they stayed in the RV park for a few months.  We became instant friends. We played cards, had some meals together and had a fun outing with them.  Faye loves wildlife and she takes a lot of pictures which I will share with all of you in this blog. She sent me her pictures and said I could use them.

We were still there when the aspens started to change colors.  It was so pretty.

Mark and Debbie whom we met in Dakota Ridge in Golden Colorado, came and stayed a week at Taylor Park.  They are from California and we have a very close relationship with them.  It was instant friendship when we met them.  We played all kinds of games and cards when they were at Taylor Park.  We had meals together and laughed so much my insides hurt.  We went to Crested Butte one day and did some shopping.  Curt and Mark rented a Razor and rode the trails and they took a wrong turn and we all were worried sick because they were late getting back, but they finally found their way back. Debbie and I stayed home because Debbie had hurt her leg really bad before coming to Taylor Park so we had a girl day and it was fantastic.  There is nothing better than this amazing friendship we have with this couple.

Their was another couple from Ohio that was super nice and we hope to get to know them better next year and do some fun things with them.

We all work very hard but we truly know how much we are appreciated. Ted and Tammy work as well.  Tammy can honestly do every job in their business.  I told her once she is like a hummingbird.  She just buzzes here and there and works wherever she is needed and then does all the end of the day bookwork for the restrauant, gift shop, trading post, cabins and rv park and of course does payroll.  There is nothing this woman can’t do and she works hard.  We became very close as we are so much alike.  It was always funny because if she came up to the RV park or I went down to their home, Bridgett and Nissa knew it would be at least 2 hours before Tammy was available.  Tammy’s phone would ring and it would be one of the girls and they would ask her where she was and she would say, “I’m with Sherri.” and they would say,”Oh okay we will see you in a couple hours.”  hahaha. I remember the first time I went to talk to Tammy about some things. I asked her if she had time to talk and she said sure.  I went up and we talked and talked. Curt called to see if I was coming home for supper and we looked at the clock and it had been 6 hours.  Ted even said, “What in the world did you two talk about for 6 hours.”  lol  From that day on we became best of friends and heart sisters.

Curt and I rented a Razor to ride the trails and when we went down to get the Razor, Ted was there and he asked if we minded if him and Tammy went with us.  Oh what a fun day.  Of course, Ted knows these trails inside and out and so it was fun to be with them.  We followed Ted and Tammy in their Razor and I can say, Ted is kind of a wild man on these trails and I hate heights but we did it.  I was pretty proud of myself.  I closed my eyes a lot when we kept climbing the mountain but I did it and these pictures prove it.  We went above the tree line.  Was I scared????? You better believe I was. haha  We also went to Mirror Lake and it is so pretty and you can see why it has the name.

Ms. Tammy!

Mr. Ted!

There is a town called Tin Cup and we went through that town on our razor ride.  It is the cutest town.  They board up their windows when they are not there because of the bears.

We were asked to come back this next year and we couldn’t say YES fast enough. When we finally had to leave, we left in tears but also feeling good that we found a loving family we are lucky to be a part of.

We are going to be working at Air Capital RV Park in Wichita Kansas from December 1st to April.  Then we will get geared up to travel back to Taylor Park. I can honestly say…..it can’t get here soon enough.

Happy Trails to all of you……Curt & Sherri
